on windows 8.1, some apps allow you to tap on a word. then two vertical lines with circles appear, and you can adjust the beginning and end of the selection.
this functionality appears to be app dependent (i'm talking about desktop, not metro apps) .
for example, you can make the two lines appear with ie, but not with wordpad, and not using a scol comptext box either. i don't know whether the vm can access this functionality with the comp api, but it would be great if it did.
